PDF Reader Support

In another app, tap Share and choose PDF Reader, or use Open in. In Home, tap the + button in a folder to import from Files. You can also copy files into On My iPhone › PDF Reader in the Files app, or from a Mac with Finder, under your iPhone’s Files tab.

Yes. In Home, tap Add Folder… and choose any folder in Files. PDF Reader opens files where they are; nothing is copied. Files still in the cloud show a cloud icon and download when you open them.

PDF files in the full reader; .docx, .doc, .xlsx, .xls and .csv files as previews; .txt, .md and .log files in the text reader. Other files open in a preview or can be shared to another app.

No. Books bought in Apple Books are protected and can only be read there. PDFs you added to Books yourself can be shared to PDF Reader from the Books app.

Inside the PDF file, when you tap Save (or right away with Auto-save annotations on in Settings). Until then the file is not changed. Password-protected PDFs keep their password when saved.

Yes. With Remember reading position on (Settings › Reader), each document opens at the page and zoom where you left it, even after you rename or move it in PDF Reader.

Not in this version: documents, spreadsheets and text files are view only. PDFs can be highlighted, annotated and have their forms filled in.

Files deleted from On My iPhone go to the Recycle Bin in Home, where you can restore them. They are removed for good after the number of days set in Settings › Explorer. Files in added folders are deleted the way their storage app handles it.

Make sure you have the latest version from the App Store (it needs iOS 17 or later), then close the app and open it again. If it still doesn’t work, email us with your device model, iOS version and what happened.
