MW Player TV Support
Answers to the most common questions. If you still need help, email info@mount-wolf.com with your device model, system version and app version.
Connecting
My computer doesn’t appear under On this network. What can I do?
Check that file sharing is on and that the computer and the Apple TV are on the same network. If MW Player TV says it can’t look for servers, turn on Local Network for it in the Apple TV’s Settings. You can always choose Add by address and type the computer’s IP address, such as 192.168.1.20.
It says my user name or password isn’t accepted, but they are right.
On a Mac, the account needs Windows File Sharing turned on: System Settings › General › Sharing › File Sharing › Options, tick the account and type its password. On Windows and NAS boxes, use an account that is allowed to open that share. Some servers refuse accounts with an empty password.
It says the server needs SMB 2 or 3.
The server only offers SMB1, an old and insecure version that MW Player TV doesn’t support. Turn on SMB 2 or 3 in the server’s or router’s settings; most devices made in the last ten years have it.
Playing
Which files can it play?
Video: MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV, AVI, FLV and WebM. Audio: MP3, AAC, M4A, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, Opus, AC-3 and E-AC-3. Photos: JPEG, PNG, HEIC and GIF. Documents: PDF. A track Apple TV can’t decode (for example DTS sound or VP9 video) is skipped with a note, and the rest plays. Word and other Office files aren’t supported in this version.
A film stutters or stops. What can I do?
4K films need a steady network. Connect the Apple TV, the computer or both by Ethernet if you can, or move them closer to the Wi-Fi router. If the connection drops, MW Player TV retries quietly, then shows Retry; your place in the film is kept.
Can it change or delete my files?
No. MW Player TV only reads from your shares. It has no way to rename, move, delete or write anything.
Something isn’t working. What should I do?
Make sure you have the latest version from the App Store (it needs tvOS 17 or later), then close the app and open it again. If it still doesn’t work, email us with your Apple TV model, tvOS version, the kind of server (Mac, Windows or the NAS model) and what happened. The version is in the app under Settings.
